Academic Enrichment Opportunities (BCBES IFP)

Find out more about the future possibilities you'll have the chance to benefit from during and after the Biological, Chemical, Biomedical & Environmental Sciences (BCBES IFP) Pathway

IFP STEM biology students out in the woods doing field work

At the University of Edinburgh, your learning goes far beyond the classroom.

As a BCBES IFP student, through a range of national and international awards, competitions and extension activities, you’ll have opportunities to:

  • apply your knowledge
  • build your CV
  • and gain recognition for your skills

Here are just a few opportunities you might want to explore during or after your programme:

CREST Gold Award (British Science Association)

If you're working on a group or individual research project, you could submit it for a CREST Gold Award — a nationally recognised qualification for scientific research. This award showcases your problem-solving, collaboration and communication skills.

Submit to the Young Scientists Journal

You can write up your research as a short article and submit it to the Young Scientists Journal, an international science journal written and edited entirely by students.

 Biology and Chemistry Competitions

Each year, professional societies like the Royal Society of Biology and Royal Society of Chemistry run essay, photography and lab-based competitions. These are great chances to show your creativity and subject knowledge.

STEM Ambassador & Outreach Roles

Interested in science communication? You can take part in public engagement, become a student STEM ambassador, or join youth panels to share your experiences and ideas.
