Lecture abstract

Sport is one of the visible faces of the Commonwealth. In July 2014 Glasgow and Scotland will host the Commonwealth Games. Glasgow, Scotland and the University of Edinburgh have all made significant contributions to the world of sport. Sport is increasingly recognized for the important role it can play across a broad range of policy areas. It has the potential to help deliver social change at both local and international levels. This lecture will comment upon Scotland's contribution to the world of sport then argue that sport is more than just a game and can be a resource of hope for many around the world.
