For the latest updates on the 2026/27 IFP Biological, Chemical, Biomedical & Environmental Sciences Pathways coming soon We plan to offer a new STEM IFP in 2026/27 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) IFP offering entry into the University of Edinburgh's College of Science and Engineering. Two pathways will be available to choose from:IFP Biological, Chemical, Biomedical & Environmental Sciences (BCBES) - Biology PathwayIFP Biological, Chemical, Biomedical & Environmental Sciences (BCBES) - Chemistry Pathway IFP BCBES Pathways - Course SummaryYou will join the Biological, Chemical, Biomedical and Environmental Sciences (BCBES) pathway, and if successful, you’ll be able to progress on to the first year of a wide range of degrees in either the College of Science & Engineering, or the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. The IFP consists of core courses in biology and chemistry, with dedicated laboratory time where you can develop both your theoretical understanding and practical skills. You’ll also take core courses in academic English. IFP BCBES - Biology PathwayIn the second part of the programme, you’ll join either Biology stream, which will provide you with the in-depth knowledge and specific skills you’ll need to join your chosen degree programme. This will include a course in the mathematical concepts and skills which are required for biological and biomedical sciences. In addition, if you’ve already met the English language requirements for your degree programme, you’ll be able to learn an additional modern language that you haven’t previously studied. All are taught by our expert academic team and will help you to build the skills and knowledge you need. Teaching methods will prepare you for those used at undergraduate level and will include laboratory practicals, lectures and tutorials. You’ll primarily study in small, interactive classes with an emphasis on developing and applying research and academic skills. You’ll be able to measure your progress through regular feedback from your teachers and from supported assessments. This approach will enable you to reflect on your own academic and personal development and growth. All teaching for the 2026/27 academic year is planned to take place in-person, usually at the University of Edinburgh's Holyrood Campus. *Keep up-to-date with our STEM IFP pathways:STEM IFP Mailing List This article was published on 2025-04-09
