Bilingualism Matters

Bilingualism Matters (www.bilingualism-matters.ppls.ed.ac.uk) is a research and information centre on bilingualism and language learning across the lifespan.

The Centre’s research activities focus on four main areas: - early language learning in typically developing children and in language impaired children; - bilingualism with minority languages and in migrant communities; - language learning in adulthood; - the impact of bilingualism on cognitive ageing and on brain diseases such as dementia and stroke.

The Centre has a strong well-established focus on public engagement. Staff provide objective, evidence-based information on bilingualism and language learning to families, educators, policy makers, health professionals, and businesses.

The Centre organizes a wide range of activities including workshops, public lectures and consultancies in the public, private, and voluntary sectors.

The Centre has an international presence with a network of branches across Europe and the United States.
