Research & Engagement Office

The College Research & Engagement Office provides support for the Research Deans and members of the College Research, Research Ethics, and Knowledge Exchange and Impact Committees to respond to the ever-changing research and engagement landscape.  We communicate research-related policies, assist with compliance and manage the Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise for the College-led Units of Assessment.

Research Governance

Our Research Governance (RG) Team provides streamlined access to professional advice and regulatory support for healthcare-related research. We advise and support student and staff researchers throughout the lifecycle of their research. The RG Office also works closely with the Associate Dean for Research Ethics and Integrity to provide support and guidance.

Open Research

Our Open Research team provides support for researchers and administrators across all aspects within our research information system and output repository, Pure, as well as ensuring open access compliance for all research outputs and advising researchers on funders’ Open Access policies.  We also provide inductions, training and one-to-one support for researchers and administrators, reporting across all Pure modules. We provide and coordinate an induction programme for new members of research professional services across the College.

Laura Jeffery

Dean of Research

Laura is Professor of Anthropology of Migration in the School of Social and Political Science.  Her research interests cover healthcare in displacement, participatory arts and the cultural heritage of communities across Africa and the Indian Ocean islands, leading and co-directing AHRC and ESRC research projects in these areas.

Ailsa Henderson

Associate Dean, Research Knowledge Exchange and Impact

Professor of Political Science at SPS, Ailsa's research focuses on political cultures and behaviours in federal states, particularly sub-state variations. She  serves as Chair of Boundaries Scotland, was an expert witness for the UK's COVID inquiry, and advised the Welsh Senedd on electoral reform.

Sudeepa Abeysinghe

Associate Dean, Research Ethics & Integrity 

Sudeepa is a Senior Lecturer in Global Health Policy at SPS. Her research explores connections between knowledge and policy in global risk management, particularly on the social construction of risk and uncertainty. She is interested in social and policy responses to disasters, infectious disease governance, the political sociology of institutions, and disease classification.

Jen Ross

Associate Dean (Research Cultures)

Jen is Professor of Digital Culture and Education Futures at MHSES, where she is co-director of the Centre for Research in Digital Education. Her research focuses on education and cultural heritage futures, emerging technologies, digital cultural heritage engagement and interpretation, open and online education, and issues of self-presentation, surveillance and trust.
