The Fulbright Commission was established in 1948 to foster mutual cultural understanding through educational exchange between the UK and the US. The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is home to the Fulbright-Scotland Visiting Professorship, which enables one US professor each year to teach, give public lectures, and conduct research at the University. Starting in 2011-2012, the University is to host six academics, for six months each, over a six-year period. The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences also hosts an annual lecture as part of a series in which a distinguished lecturer either presents an individual lecture at Edinburgh, or presents a series at Edinburgh, Oxford and London (King’s College) universities.
