Lecture abstract

Contemporary ruptures in global trade relations, especially between the US and China, reflect a new stage in the contest to define the ‘rules of the game’ for global economic competition.

At stake in this contest is the distribution of gains from economic integration over the coming decades, as well as the accommodation of radically different ideas about what markets are and how they ought to be governed.

This lecture reflects on contemporary challenges facing the project of building international legal frameworks for equitable and sustainable global markets.
