Lecture abstract

This lecture will consider the profile of Scottish criminology and the increasing importance of quantitative research in informing theory, policy and practice.

In particular, it will highlight the key findings from the Edinburgh Study of Youth Transitions and Crime, and identify ways in which integrated datasets are providing a multi-dimensional view of the problem of crime.

Both the challenges and the opportunities afforded by quantitative approaches to criminological research will be explored.
