Archive Trails is an innovative knowledge exchange project commissioning new works from three contemporary musicians to mark the 60th anniversary of the School of Scottish Studies. The project Alasdair Roberts, Aileen Campbell and Wounded Knee spent three months in residence in the School of Scottish Studies Archives in spring 2011, and from their research they have created three very different performances, utilising puppetry, film and song to illuminate new paths through this extraordinary collection. This project is a collaboration with Glasgow-based arts producers Tracer Trails, and has been designed to cast a contemporary light on an invaluable cultural resource, opening up the Archives to a new public through creative practice. This project is supported by Creative Scotland, the University of Edinburgh Knowledge Exchange Grant and the University of Edinburgh Campaign. Performances Performances will take place at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh on October 16th and CCA Glasgow on October 28th, plus at another nine venues across Scotland, where you can see the new work for yourself. The Archives The School of Scottish Studies, based in Celtic and Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh was set up in 1951 to collect, archive, research and publish material relating to cultural life and the traditional arts. The sound archive now contains thousands of recordings of songs, music, tales, local history and other oral traditions and there is also a photographic archive, a small manuscript collection and an extensive library of ethnographic publications.
