The School of Scottish Studies was founded in 1951 to collect, archive and promote the cultural traditions of the nation. To mark the 60th Anniversary of the School, the BBC have produced a documentary to highlight some of the treasures found within its extensive archives. The archives are actively growing, and now contain approximately 12,000 hours of audio field recordings and the same number of prints and slides as well as manuscripts and commercial recordings.

The School is now part of Celtic & Scottish Studies which was formed in 2001 as the result of a merger between the Department of Celtic and the School of Scottish Studies.

The documentary can be seen on BBC2 Scotland at 10pm on St Andrew's Day 2011.
