ECA animators dominate the BAFTAs

All three nominations in the animation category of the Scottish BAFTAs have been given to Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) graduates.

Claire Lamond, Ainslie Henderson and Will Anderson fought off competition from professional animators across Scotland, guaranteeing that the award will go to a film produced at ECA.

Jared Taylor, Programme Director of animation at ECA, said: “We managed this same domination of nominations for the RT Awards and the Scottish BAFTA Newcomers last year, but this is the full-blown Scottish BAFTAs, not a student-focused competition. Our graduates have put their work up for comparison and judgement against the best professional work that the animation industry in Scotland has to offer and completely closed them out.”

The nominations follow a string of other accolades for ECA graduates in recent months, including prizes at the Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival and the KROK International Animated Film Festival, as well as a shortlisting for an Oscar nomination.

The winner will be announced at the 2012 British Academy Scotland Awards on Sunday 18th November.
