Dance shows launch Oxygen Season

A ground-breaking collaboration between the University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is set to open at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Oxygen is a brand new programme of events curated by the recently appointed Professor of New Work, Peter Manning.

Colours

Colours is the first show in this season of four new works to be performed at the world’s biggest arts festival.

Inspired by the life of the legendary dancer Margaret Morris, Colours is a new work from Vincent Hantam, the dance artist in residence at the University’s Moray House School of Education.

The work is in collaboration with dancers from the MSc in Dance Science at the University, set designers from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, costume designers at Edinburgh College of Art and set to music by emerging composers at the University’s Reid School of Music.

Proceeds will fund bursaries for MSc Dance Science and Education and Music Composition Students at the University.

For Oxygen, Professor Peter Manning has worked in close collaboration with the University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to bring together performers and arts practitioners from around the world. The cutting edge programme heralds the newly formed relationship between two of the country’s leading arts establishments.

Anne-Liis Poll, Anto Pett and Charlotte Seither

Elsewhere on in the Oxygen season, acclaimed musicians Anne-Liis Poll and Anto Pett will perform an hour's worth of electro-acoustic completely improvised music with film, featuring two grand pianos and a projector.

The Music of Charlotte Seither provides a unique opportunity to hear her extraordinary new works prior to their outing at the BBC Proms. For her addition to Oxygen, German composer Seither adapts the words of the 17th-century poet Francesco de Lemene.
