A ground-breaking collaboration between the University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is set to open at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Oxygen is a brand new programme of events curated by the recently appointed Professor of New Work, Peter Manning. Colours Colours is the first show in this season of four new works to be performed at the world’s biggest arts festival. Inspired by the life of the legendary dancer Margaret Morris, Colours is a new work from Vincent Hantam, the dance artist in residence at the University’s Moray House School of Education. The work is in collaboration with dancers from the MSc in Dance Science at the University, set designers from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, costume designers at Edinburgh College of Art and set to music by emerging composers at the University’s Reid School of Music. Directed by Dr Sophia Lycouris, Reader in Interdisciplinary Choreography at Edinburgh College of Art, it is a site specific dance project designed to bring a sense of magic and poetry into the everyday. Live dancers from the University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will recreate cinematic story fragments behind glass walls and doors across Edinburgh. City Glimpses Performances are free. Anne-Liis Poll, Anto Pett and Charlotte Seither Elsewhere on in the Oxygen season, acclaimed musicians Anne-Liis Poll and Anto Pett will perform an hour's worth of electro-acoustic completely improvised music with film, featuring two grand pianos and a projector. The Music of Charlotte Seither provides a unique opportunity to hear her extraordinary new works prior to their outing at the BBC Proms. For her addition to Oxygen, German composer Seither adapts the words of the 17th-century poet Francesco de Lemene.
