ECA Animation wins at BAFTA New Talent Award

Ansgar Hoeckh, who graduated from ECA in 2012 with an MA in Film Directing, won in the Director of Photography category for Judas Goat (Seventh Crow, Pav Films).

In total, seven ECA students or alumni were shortlisted for the awards, which were announced at a ceremony in Glasgow hosted by author, broadcaster and journalist, Muriel Gray. In three of the twelve core categories – Animation, Editor and Factual – ECA produced two of the three finalists and Out Of The Ash, for which Edinburgh College graduate, Paul Kowalik, won in the Sound Design category, was directed by Sandy Garfunkel, who graduated from ECA in 2013 with an MFA in Film Directing.

The British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards are supported by Creative Scotland and Channel 4. In 2013, the ultimate award of ‘Best New Work’ was clinched by Hannah And The Moon, an animation by ECA student, Kate Charter, who graduated in 2012 with a First Class BA (Hons) in Animation, and Joseph Atkinson, an alumnus of Screen Academy Scotland.
