Fundraising for Soweto Melodic Voices

The University's Chaplaincy need to raise at least £6,000 to make the visit possible.

The choir have the support of Archbishop Desmond Tutu for their visit and will perform in the summer festivals and provide workshops for local schools, communities, student groups and choirs, communicating the power of music and dance to transform lives.

Soweto Melodic Voices are made up of 15-25 year-olds finding their way through the aftermath of Apartheid and the ongoing realities of HIV/AIDS through song and dance. At home, their community work supports HIV/AIDS orphans and improves the educations opportunities of young people from Soweto.

The fundraising event will include coffee and homemade cakes; a raffle; a tombola; a fancy dress competition with the theme 'Africa'; and a jewellery sale with new and gifted items ranging from £2 to £20.
