Two University of Edinburgh academics have been elected Fellows of The British Academy. Professors Tobias Kelly and Martin Pickering have been recognised by the UK’s national academy for their notable academic contributions to the humanities and social sciences. They join 86 outstanding academics honoured with a fellowship this year. Image International research Professor Tobias Kelly has been awarded the fellowship for his distinguished research into human rights, political violence, war and peace, and questions of evidence. Professor Kelly is a political and legal anthropologist, based at the School of Social and Political Science. As part of his work, he has carried out ethnographic and archival research in Britain, Israel/Palestine, and at the UN. Over the years I have been generously supported by the British Academy in multiple ways, allowing me to collaborate with some amazing people, and have always appreciated the important work that the BA does. I am really honoured and delighted to have been elected a Fellow. Professor Tobias Kelly Psychology of language Professor Martin Pickering has received the fellowship for his research investigating the psychology of language and communication. Based in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences, he conducts research into the production and comprehension of words, sentences, and discourse. I am delighted to have been elected as a Fellow of the British Academy. My research is concerned with many aspects of the psychology of language and communication, particularly in relation to how people speak, understand what other people say, and hold conversations. It has been conducted in collaboration with many students and colleagues in PPLS and elsewhere, and I am extremely grateful for the fantastic support I have been given over the years by everyone around me.
