Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) – Disclosure Scotland

Anyone seeking work with children or protected adults in either a paid or voluntary capacity must apply to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Applications for PVG Scheme membership are processed and assessed by Disclosure Scotland who provides this service on behalf of the Scottish Government as a means of enhancing security, public safety and protecting the vulnerable in society.

Do I need to do this?

Some students on Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research Programmes may be required to join the PVG scheme. Undergraduate and Postgraduate taught students will be made aware of this additional requirement prior to application, and we will inform applicants again at the point of offer if a PVG is required.

If a student decides to undertake some research while they are on-programme they may also apply to become a member of the Scheme.

Undergraduate and PGDE admissions

If you require a PVG because you are required to join the scheme to:

• be admitted into the University for an Undergraduate programme 
• apply for the PGDE and TLT programmes,  
• apply for Master of Social Work or MN Nursing programmes

Postgraduate Taught admissions

If you require a PVG because you are required to join the scheme to be admitted into the University for a Postgraduate Taught programme (with the exception of the programmes listed above) and you have an enquiry, please contact:

Students already on a programme in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

If you are an Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught or Postgraduate Research student already admitted to the University and you wish to or need to undertake research or placement work that requires you to join the scheme, please contact:

Staff

If you require a PVG because you are a member of University staff (from any College), this is dealt with through Human Resources.
